The Commonwealth of nations - Script Part 1. Since it was formed in 1931, the Commonwealth of Nations in which all members are equal stands for justice, freedom, democracy and human rights. Its first members were Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. Part 2. Today it boasts voluntary associations of 54 members and is a vibrant and growing association of states working together to make our world better. Over 1.8 billion people or 30% of the world population make up the Commonwealth, and over half are young people aged 25 or under. Part 3. The Commonwealth member nations are represented by an astonishing diversity. They include Canada, the world’s largest territory, and Nauru, the world’s smallest republic, Namibia, the world’s driest country, and Guyana, which has some of the world’s best conserved tropical forests. Some of today’s fastest growing industrial nations such as India and Malaysia are members. However, so too are Mozambique and Tanzania, two of the world’s poorest nations. |
